Some time ago, there came to be a being known as Saturos. And well-known he was, so much in fact that he was revered as Prince Saturos. But he wasn't just another prince. No, in fact, he he was a demon. A sadistic, cold-hearted demon without remorse or feeling. How he actually earned the title of 'Prince' is unknown, but how he gained power is easy enough to explain.
Prince Saturos killed. He killed for sport. He killed living men, women and children alike. He ruthlessly slaughtered animals and creatures of all types without a second thought. Even his own kind weren't exempt from his menacing wrath. He struck fear into the souls of all who crossed his path, should they live long enough to feel such fear. Towns, villages, cities, entire civilizations... all crumbled into nonexistence when they became Saturos' chosen target. So it was no surprise that he was unanimously named the ruler of the Baa'lique realm of the Demon Plane.
Before long, Saturos caught wind of a land in the living realm where there lay a mine filled with gemstones called emeralds. But these were no ordinary gemstones. No, these precious stones had peculiar powers indeed, and were located only deep within the caverns of this cave. But this cave was kept within the walls of the watchful eyes of the inhabitants of the Grand city of Vale. Vale was a peaceful city, massive in size and teeming with elves of all ages. Located deep within the forests of the eastern tip of Sol Thanin, these elves lived in harmony with each other and the creatures and land around them for hundreds of years. They were governed by their leader, King Falren. Falren was a good king, caring and just. Upon discovering the cave filled with the gemstones, Falren claimed it as the property of Vale, and had it included within the walls when they were built. For a time, there was no trouble. There was very little dispute, and during the time of peace most magicks was governed under Falren's watchful eye. The most prominently studied magicks were healing-based, due to the lack of combat over the years.
But this was soon to be their downfall, because as soon as Saturos showed with a small army of just over 200 followers, the villagers of Vale quickly perished or gave in to the crushing might of the demon prince. Without adequate combat strategy or weaponry, the elves had no chance of winning against such a surprising attack on their land. Quite soon after Saturos' initial attack on the city of Vale, King Falren soon found himself at the mercy of the demon prince.
Saturos demanded that the elves surrender the cave to the demons, as he required the gemstones' magical abilities. He threatened to kill off the entire city if the mine wasn't surrendered within 24 hour's time. Not surprisingly, Falren agreed to Saturos' terms and began making orders for the mining of gemstones. Saturos was pleased at how smoothly the raid had been and at how well the elves had agreed to his will, and he soon decided to indulge himself. He was quite a greedy demon, indeed, and always needed something more. He ordered a few of his soldiers to kidnap the fairest elven maidens they could find. In a few short hours, the soldiers turned up around twenty gorgeous elven maidens, each one looking more beautiful and elegant as the first. Saturos, being the tyrant he was, allowed his soldiers to do as they wished with the maidens, but he, naturally, chose the most gorgeous of them all for himself, a young elf named Kalianna. Saturos told Kalianna if she didn't consent to satisfy his more sanguine pleasures, he would take her life without hesitation, and then use her life as an example to the rest of her kind. For the safety of the villagers, he grudgingly consented. Very soon following, Kalianna became ill. The leading cause was found swiftly by the healers of the city: she was pregnant. She now bore the child of the demon prince, Saturos. Saturos was surprised at this turn of events, and without warning had the remaining maidens slaughtered. He chose to remain in Vale for a short time, keeping an eye on the minework and the growing belly of the elven woman who carried his child.
Soon enough, she gave birth their child, a baby boy bearing the physical resemblance of his mother. Unfortunately, she died in the process. With his son born, Saturos turned his attention to the mines. he was dissatisfied at the progress, and cursed the elves with a plague. Those who caught the illness died painfully, their bodies slowly dissolving from the inside out. He had not counted on his son catching the disease as well, and Saturos had no way of reversing the curse's effect. he had noticed, however, that the healers of Vale made an effort to save the city by making an emergency decision to inject each villager with a syrum made with the magical blood of the phoenix, which were semi-plentiful in the area. Saturos made note of this intriguing process and demanded an antidote made for his son. The boy's syrum was made using the blood of the legendary (and much more rare) Blue Phoenix, said to have magical properties that far surpass that of a normal phoenix. Miraculously, the boy lived through the ordeal, but only a handful of the villagers survived the outbreak. With the inhabitants dying off by the hour due to the curse, Saturos began to get impatient. He ordered his men to tear apart the city of Vale before taking the baby boy and the jewels he did have and heading back to his home in Baa'lique.
And thus, a great civilization of olde, once the prosperous and happy city of ancient tales, met its dramatic and disastrous end.
And so the boy grew older throughout the years. Athos, named closely to that of Saturos himself, went through rigorous training by means of several different masters of the combat arts. He spend days in solitary meditation, hours upon hours of rigorous training by his mentors to become his father's fiercest warrior. Impressed at how Athos had adapted to the training, he had decided to make the boy his next successor. On doing so, he angered his first born, Onikage. Onikage was a full-blooded demon, fully capable of killing, and shared his father's views of how a land should be ruled. But to be tossed aside because of this half-blood was unheard of, and Onikage set out to rid himself of Athos so he may be next in line for the throne once more.
Onikage challenged Athos to a duel. Anything goes, and the first to give in, die, or be rendered incapacitated by Saturos himself was the loser. if still alive, the loser would be banished from the realm. In a surprising turn of events, Athos won the duel by unleashing the power of the blue phoenix/demon blood mixture for the first time, nabbing a surprisingly easy victory over his half brother. Athos, who did not share the same cruel views as his father and Onikage, refused to deal a death blow and thus let him go to banishment.
