Kaien is a native of the grand City of Vale, the very same from which Athos hails. He was born some time after the devastating attack on Vale, brought into the world by survivors of the plague. His parents, Venor and Almeira, fled the city with a group of others after the plague had hit, and eventually dispersed into separate small parties in the outer reaches of Telmar, in which Vale lay. The elven people suddenly found themselves at the mercy of mother nature, but quickly adapted due to their skills with herbology. Soon following the plague, Kaien was born in the encampment referred to then as Dust Fang.
He had golden-blonde hair, usually kept slightly below shoulder-length. He usually bore a thin braid that circled the crown of his head, commonly giving the appearance of a halo. He grew to be quite healthy and knowledgeable, but his social skills were a bit lacking in general. he kept mostly to himself, studying scrolls as much as possible to master the arts of herbology to its fullest. He made no effort in courtship due to his busy schedule as an apprentice herbalist, which may have ultimately denied him of many experiences most his age, and possibly much younger, should experience in their younger years.
Kaien grew up listening intently to the tales told of his people; the massive stone temples; the beautiful cascades of waterfalls dumping into cerulean lakes; and the most intriguing, to him, the ultimate demise of Vale. He would often ask questions; the demon's motives; the exact effects of the curse placed; how the spell was cast; and most of all, the future of the babe born of elven blood. Many stories were told throughout many years, but most held only a few of the same facts: the boy was named Athos, and he had been injected by a special anti-venom made with blue phoenix blood, rather than the normal phoenix blood like all the others inflicted with the curse. These stories urged him to study the qualities of the phoenix blood as he grew older, and eventually spurred him onto an expedition to seek out the boy called Athos later on.
For years, Kaien longed to find Athos, tosee how he turned out and possibly ask him questions. Soon enough, word spread rapidly that Saturos had been slain by his very own son, who fled the demon realm to begin life alone. This gave flame to the spark of curiosity that dwelt in his mind, and soon decided to set of in search of this Athos being. So he gathered many scrolls of writings, maps and blank parchment, and set off alone to find the young man.
